The fish / fishery:
In the North Sea and Skagerrak there are separate stocks of herring which provide the basis for important fisheries. The Norwegian spring-spawning herring has its main growth area in Northern Norway and the Barents Sea. Herring spawn along the whole of the Norwegian coast.
The so-called Atlantic-Scandinavian herring consists of three different stocks:
- Norwegian spring-spawning herring
- Icelandic spring-spawning herring
- Icelandic summer-spawning herring.
Nutritional information:
Herring is an excellent source of vitamins A, D and B12. It is also rich in omega-3 fatty acids. The amount will depend on the fat content, which can vary significantly.

The main production today is spice- and vinegar-marinated pieces in a number of product variaties according to customer’s requirements and specifications. Furthermore, different types of fillets – both marinated and frozen.
